スタンダグラス。
大分前にアムステルダムかティルブルグでみた作品だと思います。たまたま名前を発見したので載せておきます。興味深い作家。もっと調べてからのせたかったけど、難しそうなのでとりあえずみた作品を中心にさわりだけ..。この作家に知っている人いたら教えてー！

タイトルはWin, Place or Show. 60年代にカナダで放映されたThe Clientというドラマの、欠落したエスタブリッシングショット(場面の説明をするシーン)と長いショットという特徴を基に制作されている。都市再開発まっただ中、グリッド上に配置されたブロック型アパートの建物が時代の流れを感じさせる。

シーンは二人のブルーカラー(肉体労働者)の男が雨の日の休日を家で過ごしているところ。その二人が競馬の会話から殴り合いにいたる6分間のビデオがリピートしながら、二つのスクリーン上に異なるアングルから撮られた同じ映像が上映されている。作品がとても不思議な感じを出しているところは、この二つのビデオが、コンピューターで会期中常に編集を続けるので、毎回違う編集で同じストーリーが延々と続くというところ。

ダグラスのフィルムとビデオインスタレーション、写真、テレビの仕事は文学、映画音楽との関わりがあることが多い。近代主義や、使われたなくなったテクノロジーの衰退したユートピアの検証を行う。コレクターFriedrich Christian Flickは、ダグラスをこう表現している。"手厳しい現実社会の分析者。サミュエルベケット、マルセルプルースト、E.T.A ホフマン、グリム兄弟、ブルースとフリージャズ、テレビとハリウッド、マルクスとフロイドの亡霊がこのカナダ人アーティストの怪奇なモンタージュにたち現れる。"

Douglas' 1998 installation Win, Place or Show is shot in the style of the late-1960s CBC drama The Client, noted for its gritty style, long takes and lack of establishing shots. Set in 1950s Vancouver in the Strathcona redevelopment, the installation explores the modernist notion of urban renewal with the demolition of existing architecture in favour of grids of apartment blocks. Two men share a dormitory room on a rainy day off from their blue-collar jobs. The conversation flares up during a discussion of the day's horse races and the 6 minute filmed loop is repeated from different angles on a split screen, each cycle presenting ever-changing configurations of point-of-view. The takes are edited together in real time by a computer during the exhibition, generating an almost endless series of montages.^[7]

Douglas' film and video installations, photography and work in television frequently touch on the history of literature, cinema and music, while examining the "failed utopia" of modernism and obsolete technologies. Art collector Friedrich Christian Flick, in the foreword to the Stan Douglas monograph, describes Douglas as "a critical analysis of our social reality. Samuel Beckett and Marcel Proust, E.T.A. Hoffmann and the Brothers Grimm, blues and free jazz, television and Hollywood, Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud haunt the uncanny montages of the Canadian artist."^[1]

いろんな場所に一定期間滞在して、その場所のコミュニティー等々と関わるプロジェクトをたくさんしています。写真は、2003年に彼女が自分からある会社にアーティストとして雇ってほしいと志願した時のもの。役職や仕事内容は特に決まってなくて、その会社に必要だと彼女が感じたことをするのが仕事だったようです。日本だとまず起こらなそうなことだけど、そんな可能性もあるのかー。最後は会社員達の反発にあってプロジェクト終了したらしい。

Antje Schiffers is interested in the everyday realities of various groups within society, and in the ways their lives are shaped by economic, political, and social conditions – at both local and global levels. She learns different languages and travels a great deal; being on the move is part of her artistic working method, as the exchange of experience is always based on close cooperation with the partners in any given project, organized mostly on a barter basis. In return for her artistic work, Schiffers receives texts, videos, everyday objects, or hospitality. This apparently matter-of-fact exchange also raises questions of the relative value of different activities and touches on issues of utility value versus artistic value, connected with the Romantic notion of the artistic genius. On the one hand, this working method necessitates direct participation of those involved, while, on the other, a distanced analytical view is essential in order to clearly communicate the underlying ideas with regard to the various “operating systems” within society.

Münster sculpture project 08で原っぱに小道を作った人。たくさん人を集めてみんなでぐだぐだしゃべりながら、ひたすら歩いて、戻っての往復を繰り返したらしい。キュレーターに、もっと何か作ってほしかった...と愚痴を言われたそう。

ウィーンのSecessionという美術館では展示室を閉鎖して建物に狭い廊下を作って、正面入り口から後ろの庭まで貫通させたり。しかも後ろの庭では夜な夜なパーティーとコンサートが開かれ、最後の方はホームレスとかジャンキーの新聞売りが集まってきて、キュレーター／アーティストとともにごっちゃまぜになっていたよ！

ポーランドで今一番熱いアーティストです。キュレーターと揉める率が高いらしい。Azorroのオスカーの親友。パソコン、emailの使い方が分からなくて未だに使ってないらしい。何かゴシップ記事みたいになってきた。

この前、彼が昔通ってたワルシャワ美術大学に行ってきました。超保守的なあの大学からこのアーティストが生まれたなんて奇跡なんじゃないかと思ったなー。あ、ワルシャワに、住居と別に部屋を持ってて、若いアーティストの滞在とか制作のために貸してるらしい。

もう一人、チェコで、良い写真家を発見してしまいました。案の定、あんまり情報ありませんが、結構若い。。

この作家、tomas vanekとおんなじギャラリーですね、が、このギャラリストにちょっとあったけど、なんかつんけんして嫌なかんじだった。いい目を持っているということと性格良いってことはつながらないのですよね。まあ、そりゃそうか。

はっきり言って情報がないのですが、最近jeleniというプラハのギャラリーに行って発見しました。

これぞ隠れた名チェコアーティスト！７０年代のチェコの写真界を支えた２人組なのでしょうか。。

何しろほとんどの情報がチェコ語なので画像を載っけて想像するしかないのですが、皆さんに私の感動が伝わることを祈ります。。

ネットにもあまり画像がなかったので、イェラニーギャラリーの展示の写真が載ってるサイトのアドレスです。写真がコピーできませんでした。。

4+4という、アートイベントがあったのですが、若手作家の審査員が年のいったアーティストから一人を選ぶ賞があって、彼らが去年の受賞者でした。そのイベントで彼らがメンバーのバンドが演奏していたのですが、６０代後半のおじさん達がアバンギャルドな演奏でキュレイラターを毒づく歌を歌っていて、スッッッごく面白かった。この審査逆転したプライズ、きっと日本でやったら面白いと思う！７０年代の作家知らない若手っていっぱいいるし。。私も含めて。

いつか実現させてみたいですね。

まさにコンセプチュアルアーティストって感じの作品を作ります。

絵の具のセットを買ってきてそれをすべて混ぜ合わせてセットごとのグレーを作ったりとか、ヨーロッパユニオンの旗を９０度のお湯で洗濯機で洗い色形くずしてしまうアクションとか、photoshopで同じエフェクトを異なる写真にかけて、結局すべて同じイメージにたどり着いてしまう様を見せるとか、などなど。

最終的にグレーとか中間色に持ってこようとする感じが好きです。

ユーモアとシニカルなアイデアをシンプルに日用品を使って表現してます。簡単そうなのに、作品の作り方がとてもプロフェッショナル、きっとすごく計算されて作られています。

かなり好きですこの作家。

以前ライクスアカデミーにいたようですね。

ミラクルっていう、何かの聖人の銅像にライトを当てる作品が一番好きです。笑ってしまうわ。。。

トーマス・バニャック、若手チェコアーティストの中でも代表的存在です。

友人の学生時代のチューターでもあり、名前を何度も聞いていました。

本人にも一回あったけど、面白い人でした。なにしろ、アプローチの仕方がとっても私好みです。影とか使うしね。。でも影を使っても、日本人にありがちなエステティックな方法では全くない。あやふやなもの、としてのただのツールです。

webを見てもらえればわかると思いますが、日常をちょっとまげて見え方を変えさせるという方法の作品群です。ガムテープの上にバルーンをくっつけて、部屋のライトのように見せている作品が一番好きだ。

他、トラムの橋に矢印を書いて、それが３６０度最終的にまわるように指しているパブリックに勝手にやった作品とか、壁のひび割れに叫んでいる吹き出しを書いたりとか、キャンバスのの本当の影をスプレーで書いて、またキャンバスを戻して影の絵の上に影を戻したり、（ほとんど同じことを私やりましたね。。）マッチの炎で焦がした壁等々。

The basis of the project is in finding connections between two locations. I compared two places with a similar signs like garden suburb of a same houses, road divided by narrow alley in two

ハーグの市立美術館で開催中の展示、Louise Bourgeois and Hans Bellmer をみてきました。ルイーズ　ブルジョア(ワ)の作品がとても良かった！テイトモダンで回顧展(2007)をやるほどのアーティストを初めて知るというのは面目無い事でございます..。

フランス生まれですが名声を得たのはアメリカに移住した後の事。アメリカの作家としてとりあげるのが常のようです。幼少期の、一家を牛耳る抑圧的な父親に対する感情や、その父親と家庭教師の公然の情事や、それについて無力に見て見ぬ振りの母親の記憶からくる裏切り、トラウマ、嫉妬がセクシュアルなモチーフの背景にあります。数多く残される布を用いたスカルプチャーの手法も実家の経営していたタペストリーの修繕屋での体験からきているそうです。

ピンク色の布製の手足や頭部を失った女性のスカルプチャーや、男性女性の特徴的な身体のパーツを一つのオブジェクトにくみこませて強調させたオブジェクト等が多く並ぶのだけれど、女性の権利を声高に主張するようなフェミニストの作品とは絶対的に違う、なにかこう、困惑というのか、純粋無垢な感じが、皮肉めいたオブジェクトからしみ出してくるような感じがした。多分かなりセンスのあるタイトルも関係していると思います。

ドローイング、版画や様々な素材の彫刻と一つの作風にとらわれるのでなくて、今年の3月に98歳で亡くなる２日前まで、幅広く性欲的に活動をしていたそうです。最後のドローイングのシリーズは原点回帰というかんじでとてもよかった。

それで最後に、この作品の作者です、六本木ヒルズにもある巨大な蜘蛛の彫刻。
タイトルは”ママン”、自身のお母さんのシンボルで、26個の大理石の卵を持っているそうだ。

やっぱり作家のバックグラウンドを知ると自分の中で作品の深みがぐっと増すから、面白いし、重要ですね。いやーよかったです。

体をつかっての、現代美術作品との対話作りのシリーズ。ノープランで展覧会にでむいて、即興でやったそうです。一番上と二つ目の作品の展示、私もいきました。ラディカルだけどコミカルなところ、(シニカルというのか？)がチェコアートらしいかんじです。

我らがオランダはハーグのTodaysArtというメディアアートフィスティバルでの目玉、巨大インスタレーションin 2007。
ハーグ中心の商店街通りが滑走路となりました。映像には残念ながらなかったけど、飛行機が滑走路を飛び立ったり、着陸したりするのを、滑走路に沿って設置されたの巨大な照明と無数のスピーカーだけで再現。ベース音がすごいので振動もくる。これ飛行機好きの私にはよだれがでそうなほど楽しかったです。ほかの作品は乗り物やら日常の音を拾ってつないだ音楽が多いかな。偶然見つけたので、書いときました。久々のオランダ情報でした。

ブラジル1960年代のtropocarismoって名前知ってました？基本的には６０年代のブラジリアンアート全般に関しての総称らしいけど。

そのfine arts の代表格の女性作家、レジア・クラーク、以前載っけたオイティシカと同様にneo-concreatというムーブメントの代表的作家です。ブラジル人のラテン系メンタリティーとミニマルな要素ってあわないようなきが勝手にしていましたが、実はけっこうある。スイスアーティストのMax Billが１９５０年に最初のサンパウロビエンナーレに来たときに、若手に影響を与えたのが始まりだそうです。そのマックスビルからはじまり、色やexperienceに焦点を絞って、パフォーマンス的な動きに派生してきたのがneo concreat movement.

つまり、マックスビルということは、バウハウス、ということはロシア構成主義（constructionism)からの流れのミニマルアートです。（ミニマルアートはU.S.A.のアートムーブメントの総称なので、ミニマルアートと言ってはいけないのかもしれない。。）

アメリカ至上主義の教育を受けてきている日本人には、このアメリカのアートの流れが来ていないブラジルアートなんて情報があまりありませんよね。でも日本とは、１９世紀のコーヒー栽培の移民から、古いつながりがあります。サンパウロの日本人街って、日本人街としては一番大きい規模だそうです。１９世紀からの移民ということは、日本の大戦後の戦後民主主義を知らない人たち。。。かなり興味があります。いつか、いくぞ！

ということで、ブラジルのアートについてでした。

音楽のことはよくわかりませんが、これは度肝を抜かれたアーティストだぁ。。ほんとに1987年生まれなんでしょうか！日本では有名な人なんだと思います。2009年の文化庁メディア芸術祭の受賞者。応募作品は上の映像の方、こちらもかっこいい！Bruin Tube Jazz Band、ビデオ後半で制作過程を説明してくれるとますますたのしめます。ブラウン管が打楽器になるそうだ。これはパフォーマンスとがっちり一体の音楽ですね。

He might be quite known in Japan as he won a big prize, Japan media art prize in 2009. For the work Bruin Tube Jazz Band(above), He transforms music into the stripe moving images which are recorded on VHS tapes. And some how the images on the TV screens are used as drums, and he creates the awesome music.

About the one in the bottom, despite his explanation, it was incomprehensible to me, but super cool!

写真畑出身のこの二人組、とてもフォーマリスティック、そしてミニマル。

写真という媒体をうまく使いながら、ただのイメージだけで作品を作りません。彼ら独特のポエティックなセンスとコンセプチュアルな手法で、単純なのに、あきさせない。シンプルな手法に、すっごく幅がある。おもしろいです。

この作家も、すばらしい。。

つい、本を発見して買ってしまいました。

建築畑からでてきたアーティストらしく、スペースを使った作品を作ります。このwhile i walked...というどうやってスペースを歩いたか、を単調に説明している文章が、リボンテープに印刷されてスペースに張り巡られている作品には、ズッキューンと来ました。買った本のタイトルが"absent"なのですが、ここまで空虚感をうまくポエティックに表現できる作家、早々いないでしょう。

この文章が大事なので、本に載っている英訳をがんばって打ってみます。。。

彼のホームページ、見にくいですが、見てみてください。。。

しかし、なぜチェコアーティストは私好みで詩人なんでしょう。タイトルがまた、かっこいい。

ウィーンに行ったときに見に行ったストリートアートに関しての展示で発見しました。

よく知らなかったけど有名っぽい、は、８０年代生まれなのにー！もうwikiに載ってるよ。

完璧にストリートアート、が、しかし、ただのストリートグラフィックアートとは違う！バラエティーの差が違う、ユーモアがちょっと深い、ように思う。私が見たビデオ作品では、オランダでもパフォーマンスをしていて、アムステルダムの有名な跳ね橋にアルバートへイン（オランダのスーパーマーケット）の大きいカートを鎖の端にくくりつけて、跳ね橋がもとに戻るときに上まで上げていってもらうなど、意味のない、が、意味のありそうなパフォーマンスをしていました。場所を知っているだけに、わはははは。

ビデオ作品はサイトには載ってませんでしたが、まあ、見てみてください。面白いから。。。

おおおおおー、

面白い作家を発見してしまいました。igor eskinja、スペースを使い、写真も併用しつつ、2Dと3Dをたくみにまぜて奇妙なユーモアたっぷりのイメージを作り出します。なんといってもやり方がとてもクレバー、そしてシンプル。Mlden Stilinovicしかり、クロアチア、良い作家を持ってますね。。。。基本的にシンプルなので、写真を見れば説明はいらないように思います。ので、いっぱい写真を載っけてみた。

Igor Eskinja constructs his architectonics of perception as ensembles of modesty and elegance. The artist “performs” the objects and situations, catching them in their intimate and silent transition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional formal appearance. Using simple, inexpensive materials, such as adhesive tape or electric cables and unraveling them with extreme precision and mathematical exactitude within strict spatial parameters, Eskinja defines another quality that goes beyond physical aspects and enters the registers of the imaginative and the imperceptible. The simplicity of form is an aesthetic quality that opens up a possibility for manipulating a meaning. It derives, as the artist states, from the need for one form to contain various meanings and levels of reading within itself. The tension between multiplicity and void constitutes one of the most important aspects of Eskinja’s mural “drawings” and seemingly flat installations. A void is still an active space of perception; it does not conceal; it comments on the regime of visibility, it invites the viewer to participate in the construction of an imaginary volume in an open space. The temporary nature of the artist’s spatial structures and the ephemeral quality of his carpets (where ornaments are carefully woven out of dust or ash) manifest a resistance to the dominant narratives of institutional apparatus and socio-political order.

読み方わかりませんね、この方。。

例のtranzitdisplayのオーガナイザー、アーティストでもありながらキュレーターでもあります。もう一人のトランジットのオーガナイザーVít Havranekと並んで、プラハで一番影響力があるらしい。このトランジット、何しろ今マニフェスタのキュレイターチームの一員らしいですから、それはすごい。

ビデオ作品、ホームページからみてみました。日常のことを絡めながらエッセイをイメージとともに読み上げていく感じ、ビデオ作品が多いです。

言語がベースの作品なので、まず英語を理解しないと話にならん。

ちらっと眺めただけですが、イメージのシンプルさと、エッセイの内容方向性に、好感度高し。。。

スロベキアのコンセプチュアルアートのコバンダ的ヒーローで、有名らしい。が、しかし、やっぱり西側の人はよく知らないよねー。現地人に聞くのが一番早い。

どうもプラハではtranzit displayというオーガニゼーションが、一番６０、７０年代のチェコスロバキアアートのアーカイブを持ってます。いい！と思ったこの時代から活動している作家の本を出版編集してるのが、いつもこのtranzit,　

ちなみに、検索中に見つけたのだが、このkontactというfonds, http://www.kontakt-collection.net/index、なかなかいいイーストヨーロッパのコレクション持ってますね。たぶんこれ、こちらのキュレーターの人に聞いた、オーストリアバンクのfondsで、かなりチョコスロバキアのコンテンポラリーアートのサポートをしていたらしい。が、最近はもうキェコは経済的に大丈夫だよね、とバルカン方面に積極的とか。。

さて、脱線しましたが。

ロマン、オンダック、私好みのミニマルな行為をしていろいろなことに干渉していく作品を作るアーティストです。

visiterに身長と個人の名前を展示会場に書き込んでいってもらうという、小さいアクションなのに、スペクタルなイメージが最終的に付随してくるパフォーマンス作品とか、ただのスペースのコーナーを切り取って、別のスペースに展示するとか、壁のコンセントだけを壁から取り外して、ほんの少し前に空間をあけて展示するとか、とても小さい行為を大きく見せることのできる作家です。

どこかに彼の本ないでしょうか。。もっとしっかり別の作品みたい！

ひさびさにドキュンときました。今まで知らなかったというのが驚きのビデオアーティストジョンスミス。とくにこの映像はすばらしい。人が行き交うロンドンの町並みの映像、なんだけど、後付けのナレーションが、行き交う人や車の動きを映画監督のように指示を出すから、笑ってしまいます。雑多な映像に呼応させた音の使い方がかなりうまい！最近の作品Worst Case Scenarioもとても良いです

作品はいつも身近な風景を素材につかうけれど、意図してるのは自分探しなどの個人的なものではない。日常生活での苦労やヒビ割れをみつけてはその形や見方を変えて、哲学、美学的、技術的な見地から、映像の可能性を探る。(下の英文の要約)

"The films of John Smith create a world from the ‘simple’ experiences of living, breathing and being a filmmaker or artist in a particular place and time. 現在プラハ滞在中のため、そして私の興味の対象がこっち方面のため、作家のチョイスがその周辺に偏っています。が、きっと日本にはあまりこちらのアーティストの情報はないだろうから、良いことでしょう。

ということで、カテジナ・シェダー、若手のチェコ人の中で今一番勢いのあるアーティストでしょう。この前のドクメンタのあと、ベルリンビエンナーレをへて、彼女の名前はかなり定着しつつあります。ベルリンビエンナーレの作品は見ましたが、とても良かった。。

彼女はチェコの小さな村の壁で囲われた場所で生活をしてる人達と、壁を通して交流するプロジェクトとか、家族とのつながりなどの、”ボーダー”が彼女のテーマ。

私はとにかく、ドローイングを組み合わせた彼女のインスタレーションのプレゼンテーションが好きでした。

今度森美術館で展示するみたい。森美術館、MAMプロジェクト、どうした意外と良いチョイス！

笑っちゃうようなことをする、スロバキアののアーティスト。

思うに、チェコスロバキアのアクショニズムは、どうもおかしい。ヒューモアとミニマリズムてきな要素がまざった、なんだか良くわからない、すごく面白い様相を呈しています。だからとても興味があるんですが。

比べて、有名なウィーンのアクショニズムはポリティカルなイシューが強すぎて私にはウエッとくる。。

この作家、時代とアウトサイダー的なキャラクター要素を比較すると、

Bas Jan AderやMarcel Broodthaers、André Cadereなどがにてると、下記のライターが言ってますが、なるほど。

だとしてもかなりのマイナー作家です。クエッションマークとピンポン球が彼のトレードマーク。ピンポン球。。わかるわ、なぜだかとても魅力的ですよね。（私もピンポン球を作品によく使います。。）

いまいち良い作品写真が見つかりませんでしたが、見つかり次第アップします。。。

Inviting comparison to outsider-absolutists like Marcel Broodthaers, André Cadere, and Bas Jan Ader, Koller’s contribution to the art of the deterritorializing “minor” in late modernism cannot be underestimated. Eventually, the art world itself becomes increasingly deterritorialized. The installation of the hypothetical U.F.O.-Gallery, 1971–72, in Slovakia’s High Tatra Mountains (inaccessible to all but expert climbers) plays on the fictional geography of art institutions. “‘Gallery,’” Koller explains in an interview with Hans-Ulrich Obrist, “is the name in Slovak of a narrow plateau on the Ganek peak which is a very demanding challenge for mountaineers.” Finally, with this admirable exhibition, the challenge of his own enterprise is open for debate. Koller’s work, developing for more than half a century with astonishing rigor and consequence, is by its very intransigence and incommensurability one further reason to clearly reassess what it means to talk about the other, alternative modernist art of the East.

あの、　ウィルヘルム、サスナルと一緒にポーランドでアーティストコレクティブを一緒にやっていた、ペインター。それらしく、ペインターでありながら、ペインターとしての枠から外れていくような作品を作ります。元々出だしが、このラディカルな活動をしていたŁadnieというグループなので、そりゃあそうだろうとなっとく。なるほどー、こうやって裏をかくのか、と考えさせられてしまう技ありの作家です。

オーストリアの4人組、90年代頃から注目されているらしい。
はじめはGelatin (ゼラチン)という名前だったグループが、いつからか、GelItin（ゼリチン？）となったらしい。不思議な4人組。前はぎさんがかいたAzorroというポーランドの4人組と通じるところは、国が近いのも関係するのか。面白い、東欧！オーストリアもけっこう先のとがったかんじの皮肉っぽいユーモアがたまらないです。

一番したの巨大なピンクウサギ(ウサギの左上にあるのは家。)は、2025年までここにあるらしい。 (2006年にはじまり。)

馬鹿げたことに本気で取り組むその姿勢が良いのです！
ちなみに、真ん中の２枚の写真は東京の小山登美夫ギャラリーでの展示だそうだ。みてみたかった。。汚いものつくる作家でも日本ではそんなに汚い事やらないんですねー。きれいだもの何か。

この作家の情報がなくてブログに載せるのを諦めて、スタジオの掃除をしていて、捨てようと思ったDMに彼の名前があったのです！小さな世界ですよねー。私がチェコで参加した展示の1年後に参加されてたみたいです。
一目瞭然、スライドプロジェクターの枠を活用したんだね。ズームでみた直線でない各画面の端々が、私は大好きです。たまりません。かなり最近の作品というのはちょっと意外でした。だいたいこういうのは、60年代に誰かがやっているんだとおもってしまうんだけど、実際の展示を見ない事にはなんとも言えませんね。他の作品も面白かったです。PDFダウンロード式のウェブサイトは、どうなんだろうなぁ。

一つ前にかいた Sinta Wernerとのコラボレーションを行ったらしい作家。彫刻家。

最近はよくある、精巧に、どうでもいいような日常品をつくるという作風ですが、好きなんです。お気に入りは石で作ったターンテーブル（動く！）、大理石（多分）で作ったふきだしは"No Comment." シャレっ気は万歳。

Sinta Wernerとのコラボレーション作品はとても良いです。語彙がすくなくてすみません。

Sinta Werner’s installations are not so much site-specific as site-reflexive. If there is an element that is ‘specific’, however, it is the point at which the viewer stands to make sense of what otherwise appears to be the architectural embodiment of seasickness. Like the anamorphic skull in Holbein’s The Ambassadors, Werner’s structural interruptions snap into a logically comprehensible form when she has us where she wants us; the rest of the time the three-dimensional representation of space is more likely to generate feelings of disorientation, irritation, even vertigo, not least of all because what is mathematical and precise creates something that is illogical and mysterious.

Werner’s architectonic installations dissolve together the genres of image, sculpture and architecture. Developed from the single-point perspective of traditional illusory painting and Alberti’s model of the visual pyramid, their subversion of the a priori of picture making recalls the painterly concerns of cubism and the instability of post-modernism in the latter half of the 20th-century, when authority and belief gave way to an acknowledgement of the contingent construction of meaning. And yet many of these effects are achieved through methods not dissimilar to those of long-established stage crafts, such as foreshortening and mimetic trompe l’oeil.

Mirroring, too, is a fundamental process that Werner wields to create complex physiological and psychological effects. Disjunction (2007), for instance, produces the sensation of approaching a mirror in which the self does not appear. Through this uncanny disappearance we are likely to reflect on the performative nature of our behaviour within the real exhibition space, as it compels us to step to the side or peer round a corner to check what is ‘really going on’. But for Werner it also refers to Foucault’s idea of heterotopias, where the mirror is a metaphor for the reality and illusionism of utopias, as well as the nature of places, such as gardens or museums, where objects from many times and places are brought artificially together. Notionally, it could be argued that Werner brings no alien object into the gallery, but merely re-presents what is already there. But that this illusion of absence produces such disturbing results foregrounds the sophisticated processes of assimilation we continually perform to overcome the fragmentation and de　centeredness of everyday life.

Nasan Tur ナサントゥールさん、ドイツ生まれのトルコ人、一緒の展示に参加したので忘れないだろうけど書きます。
まず、とてもいい人です。
上の写真ははきつぶされたゴミのような靴を磨いて作品にしたてた一品。下は、たぶんやっととれたドイツのパスポート。世間一般の描くトルコ人イメージどおりの顔写真のために、口ひげを数ヶ月かけてはやしたそうです。みごとにパスポートにはられちょります(実際はとてもおしゃれさん)。レッテルを貼ってゆく行動、ラベリングというらしいですけど、人間これ無しでは生活できないみたいですね。
彼の作品はソフトポリティカルだと思う。固定観念との対話みたいな、主張が激しくないところがすきです。一番したのは回り続けるルーレット。勝ち負けも感情の起伏もない勝負。いいねぇ〜。

人や自身の所有物を使ってオブジェクトをつくる作家。徹底具合に脱帽です。
所有物がアートだから、一度自分の持ってる物を全部コレクターに売ってしまったそうな。素っ裸ですきっと。逆に、コレクターの所持品を借りてきて展示スペースに展示してしまうパターンもあり。写真の作品は多分後者の、タイトルはManheimer Bestandsaufnahme.　アイディアもさることながらイメージもきれいだなぁ。最近はオブジェクトとしてみせることが多いようだけれど。

During the initial years of his career Slotawa exclusively used his personal belongings as materials for his sculptures. He arranged pencils, clothes, pieces of furniture and even his own car in various settings. Photographic series documented elements of this body of objects according to typology: one image would depict all his trousers, another all his cups, or spoons, or chairs. This phase ended in 2002, when he sold his ‘Gesamtbesitz’ (complete belongings) to a German collector. In anticipation of the fact that he would no longer possess anything connected with his past, Slotawa had already started to accumulate elements from venues hosting his exhibitions as material for future works. In 2001, when invited to put on a show at the Museum Abteiberg in Mönchengladbach, he asked for works from the museum’s collection to be moved to his apartment so that he could live alongside these public assets, and then mounted an exhibition of photographs documenting the co-existence ‘Schätze aus zwei Jahrtausenden’ (Treasures from Two Millennia). In all these works we can see the superimposition of public and private spheres. Slotawa exhibits himself and his belongings, or those of others, and in some cases induces museum staff, and spectators, to participate in these exchanges.

ルーマニア出身というバックグラウンドがとても関係してるんだと思います。
きれる！頭良さそうだなぁという感じの作品。現代社会の曖昧さを様々な手法で体現。
2006年のベルリンビエンナーレで見たDeepartureというビデオ作品は、白いキューブの部屋ににオオカミと鹿が閉じ込められているだけなんだけれど、緊迫感がすごかったです。全く無力な鹿と、獲物を目前にして様子をうかがっているオオカミの距離感が近すぎず、遠すぎず、ぞくっとしました。何かはっきりとはわからないけど、宗教とか、外交とか、世界のものすごい大きな問題の縮図のような感じがした。世界がうまくいかない問題の原因をこの作家はしっているようなきがする。

ビデオあり、オブジェクトあり、平面あり、インスタレーションあり、とても器用な方なんですね。この人は世界的に有名な作家になると思うよ。まだ33歳。。

ところでこのブログ、今たまたまみつけたんだけど、笑ってしまうオブジェクトが一杯！楽しいです。

ブリュッセルのwilsででっかい展示やってます．

一月前に見に行ったのですが、えらく感動しまして、最近その展示を見に行った友人とすっごい良かったねって話を昨日していたら、感動がぶり返して来ました．

今日勢いに乗って分厚い彼の本をアマゾンで注文してしまったぜ．．．

早く届かないかな！

ここまできれいにエンプティーが表現できる作家もいないでしょう．なんと表現していいのか言葉だとよくわからない．．本人がスーパーアブセントって感じです。

よくわからない日本語になってきましたが、知識として彼を知ってる人は、再認識するべきでしょう．（私がそうだったので、、）

すごい良い作家です．

これまた、アイデンティティーを定義するのが難しいアーティスト。ラテンアメリカの小さい国である、ウルグアイ人でありながら、生まれ育ったのはドイツ、で、コンセプチャルアーティストとしてNYに行った人です．

このアーティスト、６０年代から活躍しているアーティストですが、全く知らなかったです。チューリッヒに行って、ダロスミュージアムというラテンアメリカのアーティストを扱う美術館で、出会いました．６０年代にNYで活動いしてたアーティストらしい、コンセプチャルアーティスト．

かなり好きな作品がいっぱいありました．

どうも、学校で教えたり、本を書いたりしてる作家らしい．ラテンアメリカのアーティストとしてNYで活動するってことはどうなのかとか、エッセイ集を出したりしています．

アジア人で異なる文化背景を持ってヨーロッパで活動する私にはかなり興味深い．．

でも、この人がこういうふうに、しっかりと自分の位置づけを比較の中で論じられるのは、彼がウルグアイ育ちではないからですね．

これぞまさにコンプレックス．．．

先日友人宅で、この人の分厚い本を見ました．

足が展示場の壁からでてくる作品が、（多分ロッテルダムのボイマンス美術館の常設にあるので。。）私に取って最もポピュラーなこの作家の作品でした。が、その本をみてたら、この足シリーズを作る前にシンクのスカルプチャーシリーズを作ってるんですね．で、それがとっても良い・・・白いシンクがただ斜めってたり、のびてたり、シンプルな変化をつけてるだけなんだけど、妙な魅力にあふれたスカルプチャー作品群です．９０年代以降のちょっとコンセプチュアルな傾向が強くなってくる作品群より、面白いと思う．

あまりその頃の作品は、ネットに現れないのでここにコピーできませんでしたが、ぜひ、どこかで本を発見したら、見てください．

スコットランド在住の、名付けて牧場の彫刻家。
スコットランドの農村地帯どこでもみかける素材をつかって、自然の中でインスターレションや、彫刻を制作。木のとか石壁とか、羊の毛などを牧場や滝で制作するのだけど、その素材と環境がまわりと溶け込んでいるせいか、仮想現実と現実の連絡路みたいに感じられるのは私だけでしょうか。結構神秘的でした。うれっこになってウィキペディアにもでるくらいだから、美術館等で発表される作品も数多いようだけれど、牧場で制作した作品でないと、本当の作品のよさはかんじられないだろうなと思いました。

エジンバラの現代美術館で、見たFiona Tan のDownside up という短い白黒ビデオがとても印象的だったので、なんかきいた事あるような。。と思いながら調べてみたら、53回ベニスビエンナーレでオランダ代表で出品していたらしい。他にも色んな賞をかっさらうスーパースターのようであります。なんか納得、作品さもさることながらプレゼンテーションも洗練されてて、静かなのに強い、ジェームズタレルの作品の印象とどこか重なります。トップクラスのアーティストとなるとこういうのが求められるのかしら。

彼女の作品のベースには彼女自身のバックグラウンドが大きく関わっているようです。中国人の父、オーストラリア人の母の間に産まれたのはインドネシアで、その後オランダに20年以上住んで、曰くプロフェッショナル外国人。様々な国や文化の中で暮らす人々を観察しながら自分のルーツを削除法で、自分の飛散したアイデンティティーを探る、といったところでしょうか。

She calls herself ‘a professional foreigner, whose identity is defined by that which I am not.’
Tan’s work responds to what in art history is called ‘Provenance’, which is also the title of one of her most recent installations.

このペルーで行われた５００人を使った砂丘をシャベルで動かそうとするプロジェクトが一番有名だそうです．でも、個人的にはミルクを届けるプロジェクトが一番好きです．あと、氷の固まりを町中引きずり回るやつ．

この人、コンセプトにあわせてペインティングをしたりもしますが、ベースはsocial intervention , provocation、都市とその社会の成り立ちが彼の興味の関心です．インタビュー興味深いです．アントワープからどうしてメキシコに移ったか知らないけど、きっとこの人は西欧諸国ではこういう作品作れなかったでしょう．オランダのレジデンス許可証を取ったら、オランダからいかにお金を取りつつ、出て行こうかと考えている私・・

It's more than an influence in the shaping of the practice: it's where I switched from architecture to my current profession. There seems to be a strange chemical reaction happening each time I return; I can arrive emptied and find myself working away two days later, without questioning vainly the mechanics and ethics of the profession. How to Build Cathedrals

Cildo Meireles、友人のおすすめミニマルアーティスト、ポリティカル、ミニマルです．

友人から聞いた、何にもない部屋に指先に乗るような木のかけらで作ったキューブを展示（床に置いた）した世界最小の作品をきいて、興味がでたので調べてみました．やっぱり私も日本人なので、こういう攻撃的な表現って苦手なのですが、日本人なんだから仕様がありません．

でもミニマルであることに、好感。

現象学のMerleau-Pontyに影響を受けたそうですが、いまいち良くわからない。しかし、メルロポンティはなぜかよく私の周りにでてくるのです．うーん、読まなくてはいかん．しかし、どこから手を付けていいものやら・・　“Red Shift” (1967-1984)

Meireles' work is grounded in the social and political history of Brazil, he was part of the Neo-Concretism movement, which emerged during the late 1950s, taking inspiration from Merleau-Ponty's philosophies about art and life, it embraced embodiment and participation in art, opposing the 'extreme rationalism of the geometric abstraction' of the time.

お金くれプロジェクト(サウンド/55分!)ただただ目的無しに、オレにお金を送ってくれのメッセージを延々といっているプロジェクト。アートはやりすぎないとね！

クリスバーデン、専門はパフォーマンス、結構ラディカルです。
Schoot('71)はすごい。自分の右腕を銃でうたせるプロジェクト。本当にうたれて、そのあと精神科におくられたそうです。納得。ポリスの常連でもある気がする。

Burden's reputation as a performance artist started to grow in the early 1970s after he made a series of controversial performances in which the idea of personal danger as artistic expression was central. His most well-known act from that time is perhaps the 1971 performance piece Shoot, in which he was shot in his left arm by an assistant from a distance of about five meters. Burden was taken to a psychiatrist after this piece. Many interpretations have been made regarding this piece. Many saw it as a statement about both the war in Vietnam and the American right to bear arms. Other performances from the 1970s were Five Day Locker Piece (1971), Deadman (1972), B.C. Mexico (1973), Fire Roll (1973), TV Hijack (1972), Doomed (1975) and Honest Labor (1979).

映画セレブレーション Celebration (Festen) 1998

華やかな還暦祝いのパーティーで、封印されていた一家の秘密がひもとかれ、おそろしい結末に...。とかいって、部分的にしかみてないんだけど、これはマストアイテムと思います。映画の内容もさることながら、制作方法も要チェックでした。

ラースフォントリアーらと一緒にDOGME 95という、映画製作に関する10の制約(純潔の誓い)をマニフェストにかがげた運動を1995年に始めた監督。この映画もドグマの映画だそうだ。なんとなくはしっていたけど、個々の条件ははじめてみました。興味深い。純潔！

「純潔の誓い」
1. 撮影はすべてロケーション撮影によること。スタジオのセット撮影を禁じる。
2. 映像と関係のないところで作られた音（効果音など）をのせてはならない。
3. カメラは必ず手持ちによること。
4. 映画はカラーであること。照明効果は禁止。
5. 光学合成やフィルターを禁止する。
6. 表面的なアクションは許されない（殺人、武器などは起きてはならない）。
7. 時間的、地理的な乖離は許されない（つまり今、ここで起こっていることしか描いてはいけない。回想シーンなどの禁止である）。
8. ジャンル映画を禁止する。
9. 最終的なフォーマットは35mmフィルムであること。
10. 監督の名前はスタッフロールなどにクレジットしてはいけない。

それにしてもハリウッドのトレイラーはどれも全部同じにみえる！映画の個性が全部消されているのが残念！

DOGME 95

The goal of the Dogme collective is to purify filmmaking by refusing expensive and spectacular special effects, postproduction modifications and other gimmicks. The emphasis on purity forces the filmmakers to focus on the actual story and on the actors' performances. The audience may also be more engaged as they do not have overproduction to alienate them from the narrative, themes, and mood. To this end, Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg produced ten rules to which any Dogme film must conform. These rules, referred to as the "Vow of Chastity," are as follows: ^[1]

Filming must be done on location. Props and sets must not be brought in. If a particular prop is necessary for the story, a location must be chosen where this prop is to be found.
The sound must never be produced apart from the images or vice versa. Music must not be used unless it occurs within the scene being filmed, i.e., diegetic.
The camera must be a hand-held camera. Any movement or immobility attainable in the hand is permitted. The film must not take place where the camera is standing; filming must take place where the action takes place.
The film must be in colour. Special lighting is not acceptable (if there is too little light for exposure the scene must be cut or a single lamp be attached to the camera).
Optical work and filters are forbidden.
The film must not contain superficial action (murders, weapons, etc. must not occur.)
Temporal and geographical alienation are forbidden (that is to say that the film takes place here and now).
Genre movies are not acceptable.
The final picture must be transferred to the Academy 35mm film, with an aspect ratio of 4:3, that is, not widescreen. Originally, the requirement was that the film had to be filmed on Academy 35mm film, but the rule was relaxed to allow low-budget productions.
The director must not be credited.

あまりこのスペースの作品のセレクトが好きではなかったのですが、今回はなかなか、と思いました．ビデオインスタレーションでプロジェクターのイメージとその光がつくる物の影を重ならせて、見た目にどちらが影なのかプロジェクターのイメージなのかがわからないような不思議なインスタレーションを作っていました．

多分相当手が込んでいるのではないかと思います．私のテイストで言えば、手が込みすぎているのですが．

カップルで作品制作しているそうです．つい先日アムステルダムの最近新規オープンしたde appleに行ってきたのですが、そこで彼らの作品を発見しました。灯台下暗しです．

洗剤のカートンボックスが置かれていて、タイトルが、minor cube.

いやー、私の趣味にドンピシャリでした．若い人たちなのでしょうか。。残念ながら年齢わかりません．たまにコンセプトが強すぎて鼻につく感じがするのですが、基本の姿勢に、あるがものをほんのちょっとひねるだけであるがままに展示する、この態度が見えているので、とても好きです．

ヒラキサワ、サワヒラキ。漢字わからないけど、ロンドン拠点に活動する日本人のアーティストです。
ちらりとみたどこかの新聞の期待するアーティスト(多分ヨーロッパでの)ランキング100にはいっていたので、チェックチェック。
詳しい情報はぱっと見た感じ見当たらないので、私見ですと、飛行機と動物を愛する無垢なビデオアーティストっていうかんじです。家の中を世界にしてしまうような、小さいながら広ーいスケールが面白いです。

皮肉っぽく無い作品もとてもいい。
Youtubeのはアーティストが監督したビデオなので本当の作品とは少し違うと思うけど、作品の映像がみつからなかったので載せておきます。

A Japanese video artist based in London. I recalled his name when I found it in a rankings of 100 artists (probably in Europe) who might have bright futures. It would be worth checking him up once again.
Though, I couldn't found any detailed informations on him, I cannot copy n paste. So I'll try to write my own impression.. in very very sort. (Luckly, this is the fundamental rule of this blog.)
It seemed that he is a very innocent artist, who love aircrafts and animals, but nothing else. For the both videos I mentioned, I found it interesting in the wide scale within the such small living spaces.
It's quite rare for me to see such a innocent art piece, but it's not so bad to see the "white" piece sometimes especially when you're physically tired.

ライナー・ルーテンベック、ドイツ人作家だな〜と見れば見るほど思います．
でっかい美術館でよく見ましたが、しっかり調べたことは今までありませんでした．
統合されたものの中にあるアンバランスさを表現していて、それがbeautifull.　みじかなものを使うのにも共感持てます．
ヨーゼフボイスのクラスにいたようですね．かってに5stars.
(b Velbert, nr Essen, 30 June 1937). German sculptor and photographer. After training in photography in Velbert he worked freelance, photographing street scenes among other things, before attending the Staatliche Kunstakademie, D?sseldorf (1962-8), studying under Joseph Beuys. From 1980 he combined his work as a sculptor with teaching at the Kunstakademie in M?nster. Ruthenbeck's objects and installations deal with the formal problem of equilibrium and the abolition of polarities, and are distinguished by a simplicity that communicates peace and stillness. Using diverse materials, including metal, felt and paper, Ruthenbeck attempted to sustain the tension in the work with a unity of form (e.g. White Heap of Paper, 1979; see 1983 exh. cat., pl. 159); he was also concerned with the properties of materials and their effect on the construction. He related his installations to their spaces by using simple geometrical structures, attaining abstract qualities in parallel to the objective reality evoked by the materials. The perception of disturbance in familiar phenomena and the quest for balance and unity of form took on a meditative character for Ruthenbeck, and related to his studies of transcendental meditation in the early 1970s. From 1980 he began to experiment with incorporating acoustic elements into his work.

写真やらインスタレーションをやられます。
好きではあるのですが、表現の仕方がとってもモニュメンタル・・　つうことで自分との方向性の違いを感じます．

すばらしいスピーカーとマイクと最新技術をつかって、瞬間的シアターをつくりだすアーティストデュオ。インスタレーションだけど、個人的に、3D映像っていうかんじがします。楽しそう！スピーカー合唱団。と越後ビエンナーレでの嵐インスタレーション。著名な海外アーティストが日本で制作すると、普段のテイストと違って、土着的できれーいな感じに仕上がるのがなんか面白いです。（カバコフでさえ！）

すてきなウェブサイト、ここでみつけたWALKシリーズがとても面白そう。音やビデオをつかってシティスケープを描き出す。それにしても英語ネイティブのアーティストはほんとに言葉をよく使いますなぁ。ついてくのに必死だわ。

コマール　アンド　メラミッド、
いってみれば、誰よりも創造性のない画家なんじゃないかしら。
私昔彼らの展示を川村記念美術館に見に行きましたが、とてもよかった。
そこで展示されていた二つのプロジェクトが、アンケートを基した国別最も好まれる絵と好まれない絵のプロジェクトと、象に象の象のための絵のプロジェクト。

一つめのプロジェクトの意外だったのはほとんどの国の好みが酷似していて、アメリカもヨーロッパも、ケニアまで、風景画がもっとも好まれて、抽象絵画は好まれないという結果でした。オランダだけまるで逆の好みで、どんな国なんだろうか！と思いましたが、まさかそこに住むことになるとは思いもしませんでした。

我らが日本はちなみに両方とも個性あふれる好みのようで、和の美学みたいなのをそこに見たわ。（皆モネがすきらしい、なんかわかるきがするー。）
このアンケートの細かい結果がウェブサイトに載せられていました。マーケティングの会社に依頼したのでかなり細微にリサーチされてます。写真はUSAの上:好まれる、下:好まれない絵です。

In ancient Greece, when sculptors wanted to create an ideal human body they measured the most beautiful men and women and then made an average measurement, and that's how they described the ideal of beauty and how the most beautiful sculpture was created. In a way, this is the same thing; in principle, it's nothing new. It's interesting: we believe in numbers, and numbers never lie. Numbers are innocent. It's absolutely true data. It doesn't say anything about personalities, but it says something more about ideals, and about how this world functions. That's really the truth, as much as we can get to the truth. はぎさんの投稿してたシチュエーショニストのGil Wolmanのビデオをみておもいだしました。
今年10月にアムステルダムのSteimで行われた足立智美さんの公演で共演していたオランダ人のサウンドポエトリー先駆者のJaap Blonk.

You Tubeでみつけたビデオの、字幕付きパフォーマンス、が面白い！ちゃんと楽譜(?)があるんだよね。こういうのも。Steimでやっていた演目もとても面白かった。オランダ語に聞こえるけど全く意味がない演目が印象にのこってます。

エドガー　ホーネットシュレーガー。旅するアーティストは最終的に日本をメインの居住地にしたようです。

作品のテーマはインディビジュアリズム、個人主義であります。文化の違いを愛し、生活の中での表現、信仰、言葉、アプローチなど、ところ変われば品かわるものに美を見出す。実際のところ、世界中の全ての文化を受け入れる（固定観念がゼロ）というのは無理な話で、可能だとしても相当の心の広さが要求されます。個人主義という考えが実際に存在するか、ただの机上の空論なのかどうかは疑問ののこるところだけど、個人が他の人を傷つけたりするようでは社会は成立しないわけで。
歴史の教え、たとえば西洋の、愛だけが人間の相互関係をとりもってくれる、というのもとんだ勘違いで、結局愛も感情も何もナッシングで、つまるところ、どう考えるかということが、一番大事なんだよ、ということをパフォーマンス、インスタレーション、ハプニング、フィルムから写真、ドローイングまで様々な手法で表現する。

ご覧のビデオは9.11以降のアメリカ VS テロリズムの様子を一人の男と蚊で表現。蚊がテロリストです。政治的だけど、そういう重さをあまり感じなくて、面白いけど、政治的で言い得て妙！すごく良いです！

The common denominators of his work are the themes of INDIVIDUALISM and the celebration of CULTURAL DIFFERENCES. DIVERSITY IS NECESSITY - anything mono casts a threat to the beauty of different expressions/believes/languages/approaches toward life. Understanding other cultures is not a given - the question is rather if it is possible at all - for sure it needs a maximum of tolerance (nobody is without prejudice). A society can only function if everyone is granted the same amount of space. You can drive your individualism (does it really exist or is it just a concept?) only as far as you do not hurt another existence. Linear understanding of HISTORY is a misconception just as the Western idea of LOVE is only one possible approach within the interaction of humans. After all, emotions too, are nothing but ideas.

Honetschläger expresses these believes by means of performances, installations, happenings, films, as well as photography and drawing.

このスーザンヌから聞いたアーティスト、私がライクスのインタビューに行ったときに、インタビュー中にこの作家あなた好きだよと教えてもらった作家だ！たしかライクスアカデミーにだいぶ前にいましたね．名前は全く忘れていましたが、作品は覚えてました．
なんだか感慨深いです。確かにこの手の作品、昔の私の作品と近しいところがあるようですが、２年後の今の作品からは近似値はかなり下がった．良い悪いは置いといて、とりあえず私、目指すところをつきつめようと、もがいてがんばったなあ・・・
theaterとして表現されたsubtleな表現ってやはり違うとおもうのです．だってただのミニマルなアミューズメントパークじゃない．もっと身近なところから拾われたチッサイことを作品にするべきだとおもうのです・・

しかし、なかなか彼の映像作品見つかりません．
ポンピデウーに彼のコレクションいっぱいあるらしいです．THE CENTRAL REGION というカメラをただ回転して撮影しただけの映像は、今見てもすごい．もうきっとカメラを上下回転とかは、今日彼の跡にやられ尽くしていることなんだろうけど、この奇妙なビジュアル感覚、タイトルとコンセプト、そしてシンプルなアプローチは今なおとても美しいです．

Snow is considered one of the most influential experimental filmmakers[1][2] and is the subject of retrospectives in many countries. In his 2002 Village Voice review of *Corpus Callosum, J. Hoberman writes: “Rigorously predicated on irreducible cinematic facts, Snow's structuralist epics—Wavelength and La Région Centrale—announced the imminent passing of the film era. Whatever it is, it cannot be too highly praised.” *Corpus Calossum was screened at the Toronto, Berlin, Rotterdam, and the Los Angeles film festivals amongst others. His numerous films have premiered in major film festivals all over the world. Five of his films have premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). In 2000, TIFF commissioned Snow with Atom Egoyan and David Cronenberg to make short films, Preludes, for the 25th Anniversary of the festival. THE PRAISE OF LAZINESS

As an artist, I learned from both East (socialism) and West (capitalism). Of course, now when the borders and political systems have changed, such an experience will be no longer possible. But what I have learned from that dialogue, stays with me. My observation and knowledge of Western art has lately led me to a conclusion that art cannot exist... any more in the West. This is not to say that there isn't any. Why cannot art exist any more in the West? The answer is simple. Artists in the West are not lazy. Artists from the East are lazy; whether they will stay lazy now when they are no longer Eastern artists, remains to be seen.
Laziness is the absence of movement and thought, dumb time - total amnesia. It is also indifference, staring at nothing, non-activity, impotence. It is sheer stupidity, a time of pain, futile concentration. Those virtues of laziness are important factors in art. Knowing about laziness is not enough, it must be practised and perfected. Artists in the West are not lazy and therefore not artists but rather producers of something... Their involvement with matters of no importance, such as production, promotion, gallery system, museum system, competition system (who is first), their preoccupation with objects, all that drives them away form laziness, from art. Just as money is paper, so a gallery is a room.

Artists from the East were lazy and poor because the entire system of insignificant factors did not exist. Therefore they had time enough to concentrate on art and laziness. Even when they did produce art, they knew it was in vain, it was nothing.
Artists from the West could learn about laziness, but they didn't. Two major 20th century artists treated the question of laziness, in both practical and theoretical terms: Duchamp and Malevich.
Duchamp never really discussed laziness, but rather indifference and non-work. When asked by Pierre Cabanne what had brought him most pleasure in life, Duchamp said: "First, having been lucky. Because basically I've never worked for a living. I consider working for a living slightly imbecilic from an economic point of view. I hope that some day we'll be able to live without being obliged to work. Thanks to my luck, I was able to manage without getting wet".
Malevich wrote a text entitled "Laziness - the real truth of mankind" (1921). In it he criticized capitalism because it enabled only a small number of capitalists to be lazy, but also socialism because the entire movement was based on work instead of laziness. To quote: "People are scared of laziness and persecute those who accept it, and it always happens because no one realizes laziness is the truth; it has been branded as the mother of all vices, but it is in fact the mother of life. Socialism brings liberation in the unconscious, it scorns laziness without realizing it was laziness that gave birth to it; in his folly, the son scorns his mother as a mother of all vices and would not remove the brand; in this brief note I want to remove the brand of shame from laziness and to pronounce it not the mother of all vices, but the mother of perfection". Finally, to be lazy and conclude: there is no art without laziness.

フランスのsituationist のまえにletterist(文字主義)ってのがあったらしい。このgilWolmanとGuyBegordで作られたのですが、後にこのlitterist（文字主義)グループは彼をのぞいてsituationistに吸収されます．
アーティストというよりは５０年代のフランスの前衛家。これってどうやって再現されたのかわからないけど、すばらしい詩だわ．
アンチコンセプトサウンドだって。

アート作品としては、テープを文字の上にはってはがして、文字の跡をテープに残してそのテープで文章作るようなことをしています．
このかた、Guy Debordとも共著で色々書いています．日本語訳ってどこかにあるんだろうか？
がしかし、situationist とlitteristたちのテキストは英語でならネットにばんばんでてますので、がんばって読むのもいいでしょう．（私はプリントして読んでいない、笑）

バウハウスの代表作家らしいので、日本のデザイナーの方には、有名だったりするのでしょうか．
ペインティングとかは、全く興味ないんだが、この人の、ダンス作品、ちょー面白い！
パフォーマンスの１００年というコレクション展にドイツで立ち寄ったのですが、そこでこのダンス作品を見ました．奇妙なデフォルメと、ダンサーの動きが笑わせる・・　
あまり画像よくないが、youtubeにありました．
写真のこのダンサー、ご本人です．ピカビアも自分で踊ってたけど、この時代の人たちって、きっと自意識過剰よね．笑。

1923年にバウハウスシアターワークショップの造形主任として雇われる。　彼の最も有名な作品はトリアディック（トリアディッシュ）バレエ (Das Triadische Ballett)。　1920年より9年間バウハウスの教員としてつとめ、主要なメンバーの一人として影響を与えたが、ナチスの台頭により彼の作品は廃退的であるとみなされその職を解任させられている。　

ニューヨーク近代美術館（MoMA）に所蔵されている代表作、絵画「バウハウスの階段」が示すように、20世紀前衛芸術を代表する芸術家であるオスカー・シュレンマーは、ドイツワイマールに創設された美術大学バウハウス（1919－1933）の中心的作家として広く知られている。初期の彫刻工房を主宰しながら、人体の動きや組成を分析し、思考や感情に内在する原理を新しくとらえなおした画期的な人間工学的授業「人間」を行なった。　彼の作品の理論にあるものは「純粋な抽象化の拒絶」であり、それは人間性を残した抽象化、かといって感情的な表現ではなく、人間を物理的な側面から追求したデザインである。

最も有名な作品であるトリアディック（トリアディッシュ）・バレエ（das Triadische Ballettは1922年にシュトゥットガルトで初演され、その後も話題をよんだが、バウハウス閉鎖後は、1989年東西ドイツの統合時にバウハウスが再建された際、復元公演がとり行われている。トリアディック・バレエは彼が1916年～21年にかけて完成させた作品で、バレエといってもダンス・クラシックの技法を用いているわけではなく、立方体、円錐、球体の3つの幾何学基本形が使われた独特のコスチュームをつけたダンサーが、メカニックな動き(まるでロボットのようにぎこちない動き)をするようなタイプのものだったというが、形態と色と光によって構成される新しい舞台空間を創りだした。トリアディックとは「三つ組み」の意味で、「滑稽な場」「荘厳な場」「幻想的な場」の3場面を3人のダンサーが12通りのダンスを18種類の衣装を付けて踊ったという。とにかく3にこだわったものであったといえる。

パリでキューバ大使とフランス人の間に生まれ、1913年のアーモリーショー以降アメリカとヨーロッパを行き来した。1945年にはパリに戻り、最後はパリにて没す。

ペインターの友人に、この人の前半のキュビズムの空間表現は美しいと、教えられました．

とりあえず、ノート。
この人の話になったきっかけは、dadaの映像作品のdvdを観ていて、この人の作品があったからです．この時代の人ってほんとに実験実験で面白いことをしていることします。dadaってほんとに面白いですね．

フェルナン・レジェ（Fernand Léger、1881年2月4日-1955年8月17日）は、20世紀前半に活動したフランスの画家。ピカソ、ブラックらとともにキュビスム（立体派）の画家と見なされるが、後にキュビスムの作風から離れ、太い輪郭線と単純なフォルム、明快な色彩を特色とする独自の様式を築いた。絵画以外にも版画、陶器、舞台装置、映画など幅広い分野において作品を残した。
